GNYR HISTORY

The GNYR is a local chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America.

This club was formed in October 1960 by a group of dedicated antique automobile enthusiasts and covers the area from New York City and Western Long Island.

Club Inception

1960

The founders of the GNYR felt the need of a region in the NYC metro area because traveling to regions in Westchester County and New Jersey was becoming burdensome.

Set Backs

1958

Two years earlier, in 1958, the same group had been turned down by another national organization because of geographic reasons. With a lot of hard work, time and determination, this group petitioned the Antique Automobile Club of America for a charter.

Where the GNYR Represents

Now

The Greater New York Region geographically represents the metropolitan New York and western Long Island area. Our yearly membership is approximately 200 inclusive of joint members. Our membership has ranged up and down the east coast, as far away as Maine and Florida. We are one of the oldest and most active regions in the New York City metropolitan area. In the year 2010 we celebrated our 50th anniversary as a region of the AACA.

Our meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at the Williston Park American Legion Post 144, Willis Avenue in Williston Park, New York at 8:00 PM.
